On 7 Years + Running

August 15, 2024

My Mom likes to say that when I was a baby, as soon as I learned to walk, I ditched all that and just continually RAN—

And that’s how these last 7 years in business have felt. Fast run from day one, very little walk.

We’re coming up on the yearly anniversary of our company founding.

7 years of running + loving this business with audaciously narrow focus, every year another lap around the real estate track.

When I first started the studio, some creative peers raised their eyebrows: “But ONLY serving agents? Are you sure enough of them will get it?”

7 years of proving there are, in fact, enough of you who get it.

7 years has its moments that knock the wind out of you, too.

When my little sister passed away suddenly last year, I put work to the side with a broken heart and sometimes wondered if I’d burn it all down.

I didn’t — the business refused to burn — but the running shoes did come off. I committed to more “long walks” over that fractured time, letting healing happen.

When I was ready to run hard in my career again, work had changed just as I had.

My professional creativity + chutzpah were still there; got my heart rate back up and the joy-spark burning again. But my new running pace was kinder than before.

The result was more white space in the margin. I began exploring new avenues within the studio (like expanding our template line, a win for everyone).

Re-embracing writing as a discipline.

Redefining our own value proposition.

Today I’m all stretched out, breathing deep, shoes laced up to hit the track and GO —

7 years strong and this studio is ready for what’s around the bend.

Many of you Realtors are also ready.

You know the ritual of running hard for years on the real estate track. Maybe success came almost too easily in the past; maybe amidst all the dust your heels kicked up, you rarely were forced to stop and reassess.

But recently you’ve learned to slow down + measure. The real estate landscape is making landmark shifts this year.

You’ve weathered some hits.

Now you’re emerging stronger, repositioning yourself with fresh + hard-won intention for what’s next.

Same here.

I mean, listen…

I don’t plan to stop debating the semantics of, you know, the better way to design real estate signage at agent dinner parties, anytime soon.

But that’s the thing about doing something different in this industry.

We get to tell our own stories.

YOU try not getting excited about that.

(Seriously, come storytell with us.)

Cheers to your hard, audacious run in real estate this year into next, AND to knowing we’re running the same good track together –

.
