Our strategy brief for Reference called for a distinctive pictorial Icon as a strong feature piece, something that evoked both the team's coastal location and the layered symbolism of the company name. The final result certainly honors the coastal vibes in concept, but doesn't stop there: the Icon depicts an individual standing confidently at a sailboat's bow, looking through a pair of binoculars. Here our visual story narrates the "Reference" name and brand messaging both, where seeking and finding the critical relational + transactional touch points in the business is always celebrated.

In addition to the signature Icon piece, a modern-edge display typeface for the leading Wordmark —— coupled with clean compositions for supportive marks and a fun-loving logo-based pattern —— anchor the identity in all the right laidback sensibilities. Meanwhile, a refined color palette nods to coastal inspiration, but with a warm contemporary twist that feels relational and nuanced, avoiding the "coastal cliche."
